So, Will and I got our 10 minute chat with the teacher tonight.

A summary of the key points, as I remember them:Read more... )

Anyway, she says he sweet and clever and that we should be very proud of him. We are (even without the teacher telling us).

So, we have a throw that we keep folded up on the back of the sofa because our lounge gets chilly at night. Jamie likes it and is constantly pulling it down, rolling up in it and then leaving it lying around.

Today, I was complaining about it. I said something along the lines of "Jamie, why do you keep leaving the blanket in a mess?"

His response? )

He's still muttering to himself now - I can hear him. I bet if I get closer, it'll still be math. He loves his numbers. His teacher gave him a sheet with the numbers from 1-100 on it. He was able to count to 100 two years ago. She wants him to practice counting by twos up to 12. He counts by twos to 100, and by fives and tens. So, we are working on threes. We can make it to 30 pretty consistently.

If only he was as interested in writing.

He's been going to a sports camp all week. He hasn't particularly enjoyed it, mind you, but today was ok, apparently. When his papa came home from work today, Jamie told him about his day.

"We played six games of football. And six games of hockey."

"Field hockey?"

A pause for thought (hockey here usually means field hockey and proper hockey is identified as ice hockey).

"Yeah, field hockey. And we had a water fight. I bet you wish you were me."

Considering Will is working over-time this week and won't have a day off until Thursday, I bet he wishes he was Jamie too!

On another front, Jamie informed me this morning that he wishes he could have Muzzy. It's a BBC language programme for kids and it's currently on special - you can get 5 languages in one package, for only £150. I don't have £150 though, so no go. But, he also wants to learn sign language. He's been remembering some of the baby sign and making up signs of his own. He thinks it would be cool to talk silently. I would love to help him with these goals. At the moment, all I can really do is speak what little French I have with him and get him to watch a few tv programmes. It's a start though, right?

Ben 10 Alien Force

I like Ben 10 Alien Force because it has a whole bunch of neat aliens. My favourite alien is Chromostone because he shoots a whole lot of multi-coloured crystals. Other aliens are Spider-Monkey and Swampfire and AlienX. In every episode it has a bit where it shows you all of the aliens at the beginning. I like to watch the show whenever I can.

So, I was looking at some old photos for a project I was working on, and ran into this series of images of Jamie from our last SST. They made me laugh, so I figured I'd share them.

It was awesome. It was awesome because it looked like it was actually real. It looked like the whole place was complete. We got to camp at Raglan - in a tent. It was muddy and it was kind of sunny and kind of cloudy.

I had a friend and his dad was a very good fighter. His dad's armour was black. His dad's name was Vetus. Me and my friend climbed towers and climbed walls and pretended we were fighting knights and archers. We helped get water for the fighters. And I got called into court because I helped out with the water. It made me happy, but a little scared to go up. I was scared because I didn't want to get up and because there was a whole lot of people. I was happy though because I got to see my friend in court.

Every entire thing living is connected. I can't really describe it. Everything is connected because we all have, everything has it's own living heart. People should live by treating other things the way that they should and be kind when you do it. If you are a mean person, try to have other people around you which can help you feel better when you are angry. That's all about everything is connected.

I know how to do karate. That is a whole new thing. And I do soft touch only. I do kicks and punches in karate. And some other things that I use for hurting, but you don't use them like a gun or you don't really use anything that doesn't use your body. When I'm at school, I shouldn't do kicks. The only time I should is when I'm at karate or when I'm surrounded or protecting somebody who doesn't know how to attack or is weaker than me. That's all about karate.

So, Will was reading to Jamie from one of the Uncle John's Bathroom Readers. It was something about odd animal facts. Anyway, the last one was about dwarf sharks that are so tiny they can fit in your hand. Jamie followed this with some facts of his own.

You see, there are man-eating sharks, that only eat men. But there are also vegetarian sharks, that only eat ... Read more... )

Jamie-isms

It has been a while since I added to Jamie's dictionary. I've missed out on some really good words. But I have one to add today.

Main Entry: rubbishest
Pronunciation: \ˈrə-bish-əst\
Function:adjective
Etymology: Middle English robous, currently chiefly UK term for bad or worthless. And Middle English werste, worste, from Old English wierresta, wyrsta, superl. of the root of Old English wiersa worse
Date:29/07/08
superlative of bad or of ill1: most corrupt, bad, evil, or ill <his rubbishest fault>2 a: most unfavorable, difficult, unpleasant, or painful <your rubbishest enemy> b: least skillful or efficient <the rubbishest at Sonic the Hedgehog>

Jamie's recipes

Well, Jamie and his papa have come up with their own recipe. Will says it was mostly Jamie. And I'm sure he'll correct me if I have it wrong.

Pizzadilla

Two tortillas
Favourite pizza toppings

Spread tomato sauce or paste on one side of a tortilla.
Place in frying pan (sauce side up!).
Top with favourite toppings (in Jamie's case, mushrooms, salami or ham, and pineapple)
Sprinkle liberally with cheese (Jamie's has goat's cheese)
Top with other tortilla.
Flip.

Cut in slices and enjoy.

Stars=telescopes

love
So, walking home today, Jamie started getting cranky. I warned him that Santa was watching (not so sure about how I feel about doing that, but that's not the point just now!).

Anyway, Jamie stopped being cranky and started looking around. Then he suddenly burst out with:

"Do you know, mummy, that the stars are Santa's telescopes? He and his elves have lots of telescopes and they are very shiny and Santa can watch all the boys and girls with them."

I was quite taken by the idea. It was such a neat sentiment. Although, I wonder if he'll decide that it's safe to be naughty during the day because the stars aren't out then....

So, the other night I was snuggling my little monster before bed. He reached out to pet my cheek and then he said: "I love you mummy. You are the goodest mummy I have ever had."

I laughed and pointed out that I was his only mummy.

He replied and said that I was still the "goodest" one. I was about to correct him on his word choice, when he suddenly added: "But I did have to take you off of the list of people allowed in my room." (We were in his room at the time!) "But don't worry, mummy. I made a new list."

It's not nice to laugh at children, is it? But man, he sure reminded me of Calvin and his popularity polls for his dad.

Yummy-scrummy!

So, Will, Jamie and I went grocery shopping on Monday. In the shop, I found some packages of asparagus (UK asparagus is really nice this time of year). I showed it to Jamie and he yells "Asparagus! Yummy-scrummy!"

Will made a face - he doesn't have good taste. But we love him anyway - especially as that means that we don't have to share the asparagus with him.

I know I've boasted about Jamie's odd vegetable tastes in the past, but this has got to be one of the oddest. And I love it.

Time to up-date

I need new icons for the little bear. His icons are almost 2 years old now!

I really want to do some scrapbooking. I need to clear off this table so that I can play. I shouldn't really, because I have work to do. But I'd very much like to. I'd like to make Jamie a wee nursery book. He's been at this nursery since October 2004 - it will have been nearly 3 years of his life when he finally stops going. And they have been some pretty exciting years. He's going to miss a lot of people. We are all planning to get together on the weekends, but some of the friendships are bound to fade. It's part of growing up, I guess.

I'd also like to make a book for Glasgow. I don't need to do it all now, but I have been mentally playing with a variety of themes, and I'd really like to get some of them on paper. I've been inspired by some of the photos I've been taking with Jamie and Will in the city parks. (I'll post some of those in another post here, but it will be friends locked.)

Actually, speaking of locking posts - I know my journals have a few friends and family who lurk without having accounts. You need an LJ account AND you need to contact me to be added to Jamie's friends list, in order to actually see the pictures. I try to keep them all locked up for privacy and safety's sake. Please let me know if you want in and we'll sort it out.

So, lately Jamie has been into quantifying love.

Last night, as I was tucking him in, it was: "Mummy, do you know how much I love you? I love you all the numbers in all the languages."

Tonight: "Mummy, I love you. I love you more than all the worlds. I love you nineteen-one-hundred. I love you kindergarten."

I'm not sure if the lack of coherance was because he was falling asleep, or if it was because he has no idea what kindergarten is (they don't have kindergarten here). But it was terribly sweet and made me smile after a rather long day.

I love my little bear, too. I don't know if there are numbers or words that could successfully quantify it. I'll just stick with: "I love you too, Jamie."
